Van Morrison, Primal Scream set for Kelvingrove summer concerts

31st March 2016 by Paul Trainer

Van Morrison will perform at this year’s Summer Nights series at the bandstand in Kelvingrove Park. Now in its third year, the concerts have breathed new life into the 92 year old open air venue and become one of the most interesting live events of festival season. It’s an opportunity to see top talent in a fairly unique setting. The concerts will take place across two weekends in August. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

The line up for the first weekend is led by Van Morrison, Idlewild, the Super Furry Animals, Lloyd Cole and The Lepards alongside Del Amitri vocalist Justin Currie and his band.

The second weekend includes Primal Scream, the Electric Honey Sessions, Eddi Reader and guests including Kris Drever, with the last concert performed by Will Young.

Mark Mackie, director of Regular Music, said: “We are delighted to be returning the Kelvingrove Bandstand for the third year, bringing with us such a varied selection of world class performers to this truly unique setting right in the heart of Glasgow.”

The events are being organised with an official partner, Birra Moretti, who will sell beer and Italian street food. The Kelvingrove Bandstand was built by the Glasgow Corporation Parks Department in 1924 and can hold 2,500 people. It was refurbished in the run up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
