Where to go to relax in Glasgow

24th November 2017 by Ciaran Dwyer

The festive season might well be merry and bright, but for many people, it’s also the most stressful time of the year. With so much to organise and a seemingly never-ending list of gifts to be bought, it’s no real surprise that patience can wear thin and tempers end up getting frayed on the approach to the big day.

Of course, we all know just how important it is to take time out of your daily schedule to look after yourself, but at times of increased stress, self-care is more important than ever. If you can, make some time just for yourself – the perfect opportunity to relax and unwind, ready to make the most of the festivities to come.

Here are some of our top tips and our pick of the best places to go for a relaxing day out in and around Glasgow.

Spa Day

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and swap urban living for relaxation with a visit to the spa. Pamper yourself and allow all the stress and tension to drain out of your body as you soak up the luxurious surroundings of a spa – after all, you deserve it! For a truly indulgent experience, book yourself into a hotel for a great night’s sleep after a blissful day of self-indulgence. For more spa ideas and information, go here.

Café Date

For the ultimate relaxing few hours, head out and grab a hot drink at Tchai-Ovna, Glasgow’s speciality tea house. Choose from over one hundred different brews and chill out in the comfy, relaxed atmosphere of the tea house. The ideal environment for reading, catching up with friends or checking out some outstanding local artwork, kick back and relax at Tchai-Ovna.

Where to Go to Relax in Glasgow 1 (1)

Go for a Walk

Fresh air and exercise are known to be good for both the mind and the body, and sometimes, a gentle walk can be a great way to loosen up those tight muscles and clear your head. Wrap up warm and go for a stroll around the Botanic Gardens – the perfect way to incorporate some relaxation into a hectic day. Take some time to sit and watch the world go by from one of the benches and seating areas within the gardens. When was the last time you allowed yourself the luxury of just sitting still and simply being?

A Different Perspective

Scotland’s national centre for design and architecture, the stunning art nouveau Lighthouse has been a city landmark since 1895. A beacon for creativity and the arts, there is always something to see in The Lighthouse, but if you want to escape the crowds and make the most of the building, climb the Mackintosh Tower for beautiful, uninterrupted views across Glasgow. The perfect place to go for a new take on the city and a fresh perspective on life.

Boutique Shopping

Granted, shopping might be the very thing that you’re trying to escape from, but when done right, it can also be a great way to unwind. Step away from the lure of online shopping and the crowds of the city’s main shopping streets and instead, go window shopping and check out some beautiful boutique stores for your own material pleasure. Ruthven Lane is an ideal place to squeeze in some peaceful shopping at your own pace, with a multitude of boutique outlets, second-hand stores and antique shops to browse.

While it may be tempting just to try and power on through your Christmas to-do list as well as keeping up with chores, work and family obligations, the increased workload will just serve to add extra pressure to an already stressed out mind. This year, put your health and well-being first and commit to looking after yourself ready to enjoy the Christmas season to come!
