BAFTA Scotland, has announced the winners of this year’s British Academy Scotland Awards at a glamourous red carpet ceremony in the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central.
Hosted by Edith Bowman, the awards celebrated the best in film, games and television produced over the last year in Scotland, with Mark Bonnar, Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan and Derry Girls’ Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Nicola Coughlan; among the guests handing out the coveted awards on the night.
The award for Outstanding Contribution to Television went to the creative team behind Still Game and was presented by Martin Compston and David Hayman who have both appeared in the award-winning sitcom, with tributes from Greg McHugh, Lorraine Kelly, Jackie Bird and Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.
Also receiving special recognition on the evening was Script Supervisor Pat Rambaut who was honoured for Outstanding Contribution to Craft (in Memory of Robert McCann). The award was presented by Iain Smith OBE with tributes from Lord David Puttnam, David Hayman and last year’s Outstanding Contribution honouree Paddy Higson.
In competitive categories, Wild Rose was the nights’ biggest winner picking up three awards. The film triumphed in Feature Film and also saw Nicole Taylor pick up the Writer Film/Television award, supported by Screen Scotland, while Jessie Buckley won in this year’s Actress Film category.
Murder Case scooped two awards, taking home theFeatures & Factual Series prize with Director Factual awarded to Matt Pinder, while Jon. S. Baird (Stan & Ollie)was awarded Director Fiction, sponsored by Champagne Taittinger.
Lorn Macdonald (Beats) took home this year’s Actor Film award, sponsored by Audi UK,with Alex Ferns (Chernobyl)picking up Actor Television, while Kelly Macdonald (The Victim) won this year’s Actress Television award, with The Cry awarded the Television Scripted prize.
Yes/No: Inside the Indyref won in Specialist Factual whileReal Kashmir F.C.was awarded the Single Documentary prize. Taking home the award for Current Affairs wasDisclosure: Who Killed Emma?
Observation received the award for Game, with Short Film won by That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore. Entertainment was scooped by Last Commanders and this year’s Animation category was won by Love, Death & Robots – Helping Hand.
