Blue Lagoon have been serving fish ‘n’ chips and a variety of battered and deep fried delights for over forty years.
The first shop was opened on Sauchiehall Street in the early 1970s by the Varese family. Their menu hasn’t changed much since. New branches have opened across the city centre and beyond – our favourite is on West Nile Street. Many of the shops have a sit-in and take-away menu.
When the Gibraltar football team manager, Kilwinning born Davie Wilson, brought his players to face Scotland at Hampden earlier in the year he had a simple game-plan: “We’ll take a walk along the Clyde on the morning of the game, weather permitting, and after the game we’ll be straight to the Blue Lagoon under Central Station!” No better place to cheer yourself up after a bad result.
Plenty of hipster joints will promise to serve you up a deconstructed or reimagined take on fish ‘n’ chips these days but this is where you go when you want the real deal. No need for improvement. We want fresh fish, crunchy batter and thick chunks of potato lathered in salt and vinegar. There’s yer dinner.
